Rotary International
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united to provide
humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and
help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries, approximately
1.2 million Rotarians work to develop community service projects that address
many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and
hunger, illiteracy, and violence. The Rotary's motto is Service Above Self.
A key way of funding these efforts is The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation
funds local Rotary club and district projects to improve the quality of life
locally and in the developing world. One of the major Humanitarian Programs
is PolioPlus, which seeks to eradicate the poliovirus worldwide.

Youth Programs
Rotaract
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18
to 30. Rotaract clubs are community-based or university-based and are sponsored
by a local Rotary club, making them true "partners in service" and
key members of the Rotary family. Summit Rotary provides support for the Rotaract
Club at UNCG.
Interact
Interact is an international organization of service and social clubs for
young people of secondary school age that fosters leadership and responsible
citizenship and promotes international understanding and peace. The name was
created by combining the words "international" and "action."
Interact clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs as a program of Rotary International.
Rotary clubs provide guidance and inspiration, but the Interact clubs are
self-governing and self-supporting. Clubs take a variety of forms; both single-gender
and mixed as well as large and small. The membership base of a club can be
drawn from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools
from the same community. Our club supports the Interact club at Northwest
High School.
Net Club
Net Club is a student organization at Northwest High School that educates
their peers about the dangers of tobacco and alcohol use.

Gears and Spokes
In its first two years, Gears and Spokes has raised over $70,000 for youth
charities in Greensboro. We also strive to keep our administration low. Last
year we distributed 83% of the money raised to charities.
Unlike many charities, we do not limit our focus to just one cause or disease.
Although we focus on issues that affect the Youth in our community, our structure
allows many different charities to participate. This open structure allows
us to impact more of the root issues affecting our children. Our Charity Partners
are focused on many different aspects of the same problem. We believe that
by wider participation we can touch more lives.

Moscow Rotary
Summit's focus is not just local though. Through our international Rotarian
ties we focus on national and international issues. It is credited with helping
establish the first Rotary organization in Russia during the waning years
of the Soviet Union. These ties include sister clubs in Moscow, international
exchange programs, and support of The Rotary Foundation.
