Big Sweep

Each fall, Summit Rotary joins other Greensboro Beautiful volunteers to clean litter from our community's lakes, creeks and streams as part of the NC Big Sweep Waterway Litter Pickup. Volunteers from scout troops, community organizations, faith communities, schools, businesses, and families take part in the cleanup, showing our community's concern for cleaner waterways and public areas.

Little Free Libraries

Beginning in 2014, Summit Rotary began building Little Free Libraries to place in various parks throughout our community. What is Little Free Libraries? It’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. Our goal in taking part in this initiative is to help plan Little Free Libraries in areas of our community where many households may have no books at all. This is a great way for us to help improve literacy in the next generation throughout our community!

Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell Ringing

During December, we partner with the Salvation Army to take part in their Red Kettle Bell Ringing fundraiser. Our club works together to fill all shifts at the Harris Teeter on New Garden Rd. This event is a great way for everyone in the club to pitch in and give back to our community!

Past Projects

Shadows Day
Our signature service project during March is participating in Rotary Shadows Day. This event allows students from local high schools to shadow a member of our club for a half day, and learn what different jobs entail on a daily basis.

Newcomers School
The Doris Henderson Newcomers School serves recently arrived immigrant and refugee students in grades 3-12 who are novice English speakers.  Focused instruction is provided by staff members in English as a Second Language.  In addition, content area objectives are integrated into ESL lessons to provide students access to Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and English Language Arts curriculum.
